Ravenne Aponte is a historian, educator, and pediatric critical care registered nurse. She is currently a second-year doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in the Barbara Bates Center for the Study of History of Nursing and co-creator of Nurses You Should Know. Her research interests include the history of nursing, health equity, and workforce diversity. She specifically focuses on the history of Black nurses and their relationship with Black women’s and community-based organizations in the early 20th century. Her multidisciplinary program of research seeks to expand the history of nursing and Black women and examine the complexity of Black women’s role as nurses in addressing health inequities. As a registered nurse, Ravenne specializes in pediatric critical care and community health.
She received her Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies and Health Disparities from the University of Florida in 2016 and then completed an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duke University in 2017.
